Holika Dahan Story
According to the scriptures, the tradition of Holika Dahan is a unique feeling of connection between the devotee and God. According to the story, Asura Raj Hiranyakashyap ruled in India. His son Prahlada was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu, but Hiranyakashipu was a malevolent. Hiranyakashipu had announced on earth that no one would worship the gods. Only he would be worshiped, but the devotee Prahlada did not obey his father and remained in devotion to God. Hiranyakaship tried several times to get the son Prahlada killed, but he failed to succeed so he planned. Under this scheme he enlisted the help of sister Holika. Holika had a boon, she would not burn with fire. As per the plan Holika sat in the fire with Prahlada in her lap, but the Lord assisted the devotee Prahlada. Holika got burnt in this fire and devotee Prahlada came out of the fire safely. Since then Holika Dahan has a tradition. The Holika carries the message of burning all malice and sins.
